Tiger Conservation

Tiger Conservation The TIGER is critically endangered, there are approximately 3000 left in the wild. There are five sub species left and Tigers are being killed at the rate of one a day. The reasons that we are losing them is due to deforestation, man-animal conflict, poaching and people believe that eating there body parts in traditional Chinese medicines will cure certain aliments, this has never been proven medically.

Tiger Awareness is a registered UK charity, we help with funds in India.

The organisation was formed in 1998 to give awareness to the plight of the Tiger. We work with local organisations in India, our funds are used at ground level were they are most needed and are given directly by ourselves.

We help villagers that live in the Tiger range areas, we work in 4 main areas in India, Sundarbans, Bandhavagarh, Ranthambhore and Dudhwa. We help villagers with funds were they have cattle lifted by Tigers, outside National Parks. We have helped at schools who have been identified as conservation minded, we help the forest guards with equipment that will enable them to do there job more effectively. We help with man—animal conflict support. We support organisations that look to give alternative ways to livelihood, other than hunting. We also support nature education, so encouraging respect and understanding for wildlife in its natural habitat.

We will continue to look to raise funds for causes, that support Tiger conser-vation working with local people in the Tiger range areas, as it is felt that this is the way forward to conserve the 1200 Tigers left in the WILD in India.

If people would like to donate funds to our work, you can online at Just Giv-ing, Charity Aid Foundation or by cheque to the address below.

It is imperative that we all work together to allow the world to become an environmentally smarter place.

This can be achieved in many different ways:

Community/Tribal projects
To work with the local people, to give them improved water facilities, education and bio-diversible fuels. To run awareness programmes. It is relevant that we look to move families that live in parks outside to better housing and amenities, therefore giving both Tiger and
people space and little chance of conflict.

Forest Guards
They will patrol the forest by jeep/cycle or on foot. They check permits of the guides in the parks, also checking vehicles and people who are in the buffer zone. They have a stick to protect themselves from poachers.

Honey collection
There are a lot of bee keepers on the surrounding islands of the Sunderbans. The amount taken from the forest is negligible compared to the amount of people entering the forest and causing damage and also disguising themselves as honey collectors when they are poachers. Maybe it is best that this activity is stopped.

Research
To be able to help the tiger it is important that we know the populations in the certain parks and areas. We also need to know what their range areas are, specific mating habits, prey density etc. This can be done by radio collars and can be followed by researchers.
