Tiger Conservation

It is imperative that we all work together to allow the world to become an environmentally smarter place.

Cyclone Sidr (November 2007)

This can be achieved in many different ways:

Community/Tribal projects
To work with the local people, to give them improved water facilities, education and bio-diversible fuels. To run awareness programmes. It is relevant that we look to move families that live in parks outside to better housing and ammenities, therefore giving both Tiger and
people space and little chance of conflict.

Forestry Department Officers
The officers in the Sunderbans work based from a boat. They will patrol the islands to ensure that people are not illegally entering the forest. They will check people's permits and be watching for poachers.

Honey collection
There are a lot of bee keepers on the surrounding islands of the Sunderbans. The amount taken from the forest is negligible compared to the amount of people entering the forest and causing damage and also disguising themselves as honey collectors when they are poachers. Maybe it is best that this activity is stopped.

Research
To be able to help the tiger it is important that we know the populations in the certain parks and areas. We also need to know what their range areas are, specific mating habits, prey density etc. This can be done by radio collars and can be followed by researchers.
